Product Description
Distribution
over satellite platform operators have unique challenges - the biggest being
the cost of the transponder bandwidth and the complexity of re-modulation from
DVB-S to DVB-C at each of the receive sites. The number of available transponders
is often limited, expensive to lease, or simply not obtainable. Therefore, the
most efficient use of available bandwidth is critical. Additionally, operators
require a mechanism to control the receive devices from a central location;
localize output of each site and the ability to switch off outputs when
required.
The Ericsson CTM12 Cable Transmultiplexer is a dedicated product designed
specifically for satellite to cable and other re-modulation applications.
Supporting DVB-S and DVB-S2 with VCM modulation allows operators to increase
the efficiency of their transponder usage, for example, by fitting two 38 Mbps
transport streams in a single 36 MHz transponder while still using a realistic
sized receive dish. The CTM12 allows deployment of digital services quickly,
efficiently, cost-effectively and with secondary scrambling at RF level for
protection against piracy.
The CTM12 is an extremely compact high density design supporting demodulation
of up to 12 transport streams that are then modulated onto 12QAM output
channels. With support for over-air control as standard and the ability for
local NIT insertion, the CTM12 satisfies all requirements of satellite
operators for secure and efficient content delivery simultaneously every local
operator’s needs for localized content insertion with support for local
frequency plans across al distribution networks.
Benefits
The CTM12 can either demodulate up to 12 DVB-S or DVB-S2 transponders or up to six DVB-S2 transponders with VCM. When utilizing the DVB-S2 VCM capabilities, the CTM12 can provide 12QAM carriers from six DVB-S2 L-Band carriers; two TS per carrier. This enables efficient bandwidth utilization by reducing transponder costs by a factor of up to two
With efficient bandwidth utilization, additional bandwidth can be made available to offer either more programs or value added services e.g., NVOD
Empowers satellite operators with the ability to configure or change any tuning parameters of the CMT12, including remote disabling of the outputs. Code upgrade can also be performed on individual, group or all CTM12’s
Supports secondary descrambling, at RF level, of incoming scrambled transponder feeds
Enables satellite operator to determine level of control given to the local platform operator to meet local needs
